DLS Par Score Calculator

What does this calculator mean?

When rain or bad light cuts overs from a limited-overs match, the target has to change so neither side gains an unfair advantage. The DLS par score calculator gives you a fast estimate of that revised target from three numbers: the original target, the overs lost and the wickets lost.

It works on the idea behind the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method: a team's scoring potential depends on the overs and wickets it still has. Losing overs and wickets both reduce the resources available, so the target shrinks in proportion.

How to use the DLS par score calculator

  1. Enter target score, overs lost and wickets lost.
  2. Press Calculate revised target.
  3. Read the result below the button. Change any value and recalculate as often as you like.

Formula used

Resource % = 100 − (Overs lost × 2.5 + Wickets lost × 7.5)
Revised target = (Target score × Resource %) ÷ 100
This is a simplified linear approximation of the official DLS tables for quick estimation. Official match targets are set using the ICC's licensed DLS software.

Example

Inputs: Target 280, overs lost 10, wickets lost 3.

Resource %: 100 − (10 × 2.5 + 3 × 7.5) = 100 − 47.5 = 52.5%

Revised target: (280 × 52.5) ÷ 100 = 147 runs

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official DLS target?

No. The official Duckworth-Lewis-Stern calculation uses detailed resource tables and professional software. This calculator gives a quick linear estimate that is useful for fans, local matches and planning.

Why do wickets lost matter?

A side with more wickets in hand can bat more aggressively, so it has more scoring resources left. Each wicket lost therefore reduces the resources, and the target, more than a single over does.
